THE BEST PHOTO LOCATIONS IN WELLINGTON!
We are so lucky in Wellington to have so many very cool options for wedding photography locations! Whether you are after a funky urban vibe or prefer to get up close with nature, or prefer rolling hills or beachy coastlines, Wellington has it all. Below are a few of our favourite places to have your wedding photos taken in our cool little capital!
Coastal beaches with long grassy areas
Being a harbour city, Wellington has an abundance of amazing beaches along it's coast line that make for some very nice photo locations especially during sunset! The sandy dunes also provide beautiful long grass photo opportunities! Some of our favourites include Breaker Bay on the Miramar Peninsula, Houghton Bay on the southern coast, and the Petone Foreshore.
Views and Sunsets: Whitirea Park, Titahi Bay
Just a short drive north of Wellington, at the back of Titahi Bay is Whitirea Park. With stunning views overlooking Mana Island and catching the last of the evening sun this is a stunning wedding photo location for views and sunsets. Just down the road is a lovely little beach with wonderful long grass for an extra photo opportunity!
Tree Cover: Southern Walkway, Te Ahumairangi Hill, Belmont Park, Kaitoke Regional Park
Wedding photos among tall trees is probably the most requested location by our couples, and for good reason! There is something majestic, yet calming about standing in a wooded forest, creating romantic 'stolen moment' photo opportunties. Our favourite spot is along Wellington's southern Walkway, particularly in the Southgate area.
Urban City Vibe: Wellington Waterfront Buildings, Chews Lane, Egmont Street
Wellington has such an incredible artistic culture that translates into epic urban wedding photos! With hidden alley ways, classic and modern architecture, and a buzzing cafe and bar scene, there are so many options to choose from.
Central Wellington: Botanical Gardens, Parliament Buildings
The grounds of both the Wellington Botanical Gardens and Parliament are very well maintained and provide a beautiful back drop for wedding photos. Both locations require permits and can get very busy in the weekends especially over summer when the cruise ships are in town!
Near Water: Hutt River
There are many lovely spots along the Hutt river that make stunning backgrounds for wedding photos. Our favourites include Poets Park, Silverstream and inside the Kaitoke Regional Park
Indoor Locations: Te Papa, Begonia House, City and Sea Museum
Sometimes wet weather will dictate that your wedding photography session will need to be moved indoors. Wellington has many great indoor options for your indoor wedding photography. Most indoor locations will require prior permission or permits to use and so we always reccomend having something booked for just in case. Among our favourites are Te Papa, Begonia House and the Wellington City and Sea Museum.
Something Different: Truby King Memorial Gardens, Rivendell
For something a little different try the stunning Truby King Memorial Gardens in Southgate. Featuring well maintained gardens and sweeping pathways with old brick archways, there are many beautiful backgrounds to choose from for your wedding photos. Rivendell is located north of Wellington in the Kaitoke Regional Park and is one of the many filiming sites in the city for the Lord of the Rings movies.
